Protecti Migrants under the European Convention of Human Rights and the European Social Charter: A Handbook for Legal Practitioners

Chapter IV on Living conditions and economic, social and cultural rights includes discussion of right to health and to social and medical assistance for migrants (at Section c). It includes the express guarantees of Article 11 ESC(r), the right to life, and the prohibition of torture and inhuman or degrading treatment or punishment of Articles 2 and 3, ECHR. Among the consequences of the obligation to remove the causes of ill health as much as possible is the right to access to health care, among others.
